Product description

Pyroshield® has a chemically treated steel wire mesh sandwiched in the centre of the glass during the manufacturing process. Both sides of the product are then ground and polished to provide distortion-free through vision.

On exposure to fire, the glass fractures but is held together by the wire mesh, thus maintaining its integrity by preventing collapse and the passage of flame, gases and smoke. Should the fire intensity exceed that specified in AS1530.4, or produce uneven heating of the glass surface, then the overall time to integrity failure may be reduced, but the total collapse of the glass will not occur.

The use of Pyroshield can also act as a visual deterrent to would be intruders. Unlike other non-insulating or ‘integrity only’ fire resistant glasses, minor accidental or malicious damage resulting in glass scratching or fracture does not prevent Pyroshield from maintaining a fire barrier.

The ability of Pyroshield to provide a fire barrier in the most demanding of circumstances is supported by extensive fire test evidence and real fire experience. With Fire Resistance Levels (FRL) up to 60 minutes integrity, (-/60/-) Pyroshield is increasingly used in buildings when cost-effective fire resistant glazing is required in windows, doors and screens.
